Overview to the Qualification:
The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training, known as AET (QCF), is an introductory, knowledge based teaching qualification which can be undertaken by individuals who are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service) or who are currently teaching (in-service). Due to the method of delivery, the course is ongoing throughout the year. In addition, as part of the course, there is a requirement to take part in 20/30 minutes of microteaching. Microteaching is an activity where trainee teachers prepare and deliver a short teaching and learning session to their peers/learners and then evaluate their practice. Please go to the YouTube Link Micro Teach by Ann Gravells.
The qualification is suitable for individuals who:
- Are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service)
- Are in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role (in-service)
- Want a short period of study for a qualification
- Have the potential to study at this level, which has the same level of demand as that of A–level study
- Want a qualification with a minimal teaching practice requirement
The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is a new qualification which replaces the Level 3 and 4 Awards in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, previously known as PTLLS.
The purpose of the qualification in the QCF is to ‘prepare for employment in a specific occupational area’ (C2).
The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is an introductory teaching qualification which prepares learners for teaching or training in a wide range of contexts. It does not develop competence, as learners are not required to be in a teaching position. The qualification is suitable for individuals who wish to teach in the Further Education and Skills Sector and forms a foundation for those with little or no previous experience of teaching or training.
Learners must be at least 19 years of age at certification. There are no specific entry requirements and learners do not need to have teaching practice hours to achieve the qualification.
To be awarded the TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF), learners must achieve a minimum of 12 credits from three mandatory unit groups. Group A is mandatory while Groups B and C contain optional units, some of which are taken from the Learning and Development qualification.
Guided Learning Hours:
The credit value of a qualification can be used to define how long it will take to achieve as one credit represents 10 hours of learning. The TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is a 12 credit qualification therefore learners could take up to 30 to 65 hours to achieve it. These hours are made up of contact time with a teacher/assessor, often referred to as guided learning hours (GLH), and noncontact time for independent study and practice.
Types of Assessment:
Examples of assessment methods for this qualification include:
Assessments/tasks, essay, observations, online assessments, portfolio of evidence, professional discussion, questions – written and oral, reflective learning journal, self-evaluation and action plan, written statements and worksheets.
